About this Demo
What if the development of today's social media had been focused entirely on what is good for users and society at large? As you'll see, this is what we are trying to do with kiwiQ.
This demo will allow you to sample the features and functionality we've created so far, but we want what remains to be a community effort. We invite you to participate in this process.
Stick with this demo to the end to learn how.
Queues
QUEUES
View a Queue

A queue is our version of a feed. You can create a queue for each of the things that matter to you. Your "Everything" queue contains all posts for the topics and people you follow.

But you might want to make sure you don't miss any must-see things trending in sports or news or gardening or whatever. So add a queue for that.

QUEUES
Customize a Queue

The posts in each of your queues come from the hubs (topics) you add to that queue. For each hub you set a slider value which tells us how interested you are in that hub.

Set the slider all the way to the left and you will see only the viral posts. Set it all the way to the right and you will see everything posted there.

Nubs
A nub is meme, a video clip, a stunning photograh, or something else you think people will find thought-provoking or funny. Nubs posted in your private profile can only be seen by your friends and family. Nubs you post anywhere else can be seen be anyone.
Quips
A quip is a short, often pithy public post designed to stimulate a converstion on a topic or news item that you care about. Quips appear on public hubs and profiles and in your customized "Quips Queue".
Forums
Forum posts are short, text-only questions or comments. You can create a separate username and avatar for your forum posts which will not link your profile. Since they can be anonymous, though, forum posts do not appear in user queues.

Post Filtering

Nubs and quips are categorized and rated by users. We also use AI tools to complement user ratings.

This allows us to provide advanced post filtering options. Click the filter button to filter nubs on over 10 different dimensions.

View a Profile

Profiles on kiwiQ are not web pages. They are websites. You can choose to use the default pages, or you can create your own. Each page can contain posts, text, or links to your other pages.

You have two profiles: one for friends, and one for people who follow your public quips.

Hubs
HUBS
Topic Hubs

A topic hub is a hub created by us. Topic hubs have news, posts, forums, facts, and more. We currenly have over 100,000 hubs (most not viewable in this preview) but our goal is have a hub for every topic that matters before the site launches.

HUBS
QHubs

A Qhub is a hub you create. You can create QHubs for topics, groups, or events.

There are many templates to choose from: fan pages, podcasts, parties, softball leagues, book clubs, etc. Each Qhub has interactive features appropriate for that hub. Once created, you can customize your QHub with whatever pages or features you choose.

For a QHub focused on a particular topic, submit it it for inclusion in a topic hub. If accepted, your hub will appear on the "Qhubs" page for that hub.

HUBS
News Hubs

Every popular topic hub has a news page. News pages have lists of trending stories, each of which has a list of articles, plus comments, and in some cases fact boxes, assertion trees (more on that later) and other things.

On news pages, you can filter articles based on political bias, recent vs trending, and other criteria using our A.I. tools.

HUBS
Issue Hubs

Issue hubs are designed to help you to stay informed and collaborate with others on important societal issues.

On an issue hub you can schedule meet-ups, propose action items, create open letters and more.

HUBS
Fact Hubs

Many popular topic pages have a "Facts" page which displays pertinent facts about that topic and useful comparisons to related topics.

Suppose you want to see the size of Jupiter relative to other planets. Click the double arrow next to diameter to see how Jupiter compares to other planets in the solar system.

Cool Features
COOL FEATURES
Thing Under a Thing

The facts of the world are hierarchical. So is kiwiQ. Every topic is a thing under a thing under a thing. This allows us, for example, to promote posts or news items which are popular in the Mars hub to the Astronomy hub. If this content is popular there too, it will be promoted to the Science hub.

The higher up you go in the tree of topics, the more compelling the content.

COOL FEATURES
Side Scroller

You are presently using the "Side Scroller" for this demo. It can also be used to view feeds, news stories, comments, and more.

Sideways is better. Give it a try!

COOL FEATURES
My.KiwiQ

Your my.KiwiQ page is a highly customized feed created from your selected "widgets". There over 100 widgets to choose from for your daily feed.

Here are a few: Today's Weather Forecast, Meme of the Day, Sports Scores, Brain Teaser of the Day, Life Hack of the Day, plus many more.

We've tried to add something for everyone, but if you have an idea for one, let us know!

COOL FEATURES
Topic Filtering

Our topic filtering tool allows you to generate lists of topics based on a highly detailed set of criteria.

Suppose you want a list of European countries within a certain range of population and land area ranked by carbon emissions. Click the filter button on the "Countries" hub and enter your criteria.

Our A.I. tools will generate a list showing the matching countries. Click the "Chart" tab to chart the values for any of your criteria.

COOL FEATURES
Assertion Trees

Conversations on social media today are usually sparked by a pithy one-liner that went viral due to likes and reposts. Assertion trees are our attempt to foster a more evidence-based discussion of issues.

An assertion tree is a statement you believe is true or false plus a list of assertions which support your point of view. Each assertion can have references, links, infographics, and more.

Each assertion also has a comments section which allows users to debate each of your assertions individually.

COOL FEATURES
Interactive Search

Our search page allows you search all topics, users, quips, QHubs, the web, and more.

For topic searches, click the plus icon to navigate within the search results to the particular thing you are looking for.

On a topic page, click the search link to search all topics which appear anywhere under that topic.

Still didn't find what you were looking for? Ask Newman (he's or A.I. front man). He's happy to help.

COOL FEATURES
A.I. Comment Helper

Suppose you're creating a comment and you're feeling stumped. Click the "Reivse" button. Our A.I. comment helper will revise your comment based on your preferences.

You can revise your comment on several dimensions: longer, shorter, funnier, friendlier, witter, and more.

Our Mission
OUR MISSION
What's right and wrong with social media?

Conversations about social media today tend to focus on its problems and rarely on its merits.

Click below learn what we have done so far to attempt to build upon the good and mitigate the harm.

OUR MISSION
Our Approach

The policy decisions that emerge from these debates affect everyone. Quarterly profits should not play a role in what expression of ideas is allowed, disallowed, or throttled in these debates. In short, the public square should not be a business.

Our vision is to[create] a platform that is created by and for the people whose lives will be affected by it. A platform which is governed by a consensus of the people who use it and one that empowers users to customize their experience to be exactly what they want it to be. Not just what gets the most ad clicks.

How can you help?
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Feedback

What if social media had been designed by a community instead of for profit companies? It would be better because.... That is exactly what we are trying to do with kiwiQ ...

Right now kiwiQ is an idea and some code. To make it real, we need your help.

We would like your feedback about features, usability, content moderation policies, and everthing else. We've done the easy part (the tech part) but we want the development of our policies and what additional things we add to be a community effort.

Social media affects everyone. Everyone should have a say in how it works.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Share

If you've liked what you've seen so far, please consider sharing a link to the kiwiQ preview on social media. For kiwiQ to catch on, we'll need a lot of luck plus a lot of shares and re-shares.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Donate

Remaining independent is vital to our mission. We must be focused above all else on creating a great user experience. Not on quartely profits or return on investment. We want to be accountable to users, not investors.

If you choose to donate, here's how we'll use your donation:

Servers
Right now we have a handful of off-the-shelf web servers. We'll need many high-end servers before we launch the site.
Content Creation
For kiwQ to work, we need a hub for almost everything on day one. Amassing all of this data isn't cheap. We'll need funds for hardware, data and image licensing, third-party apps and tools, cpu-time for our AI software, and more.
Getting the Word Out
For KiwiQ to be worth using, others must already be using it. That paradox is difficult to be overcome. We will use all of the remaining funds to get the word out about KiwiQ after we launch.
